July 27 SoyjoyJuly 19 The Dark KnightJust watched "The Dark Knight" - a good and "dark" show.
Beside the usual hero flick stunts, weapons and storeyline, what moved me most was the thing that happen behind every Gotham residents' knowledge - Why batman was later portrayed as a "bad guy", although Gotham City still need this dark knight like ever before (Dont want to review to much to spoil the mood).
Still, he is willing to head the lonely path, as he believe it is the right thing to do although no one would understand
The drizzling cold night after the movie made me felt more down for the hero. My first ever 3-on-3 basketball competition (or for any sports competition for the matter of fact) will be on this coming Sunday.
It is just a inter-SBU games within Keppel Corp, so it was more like a get-together sport event rather than a real "competetive" games.
So when my colleague asked if I wanted to join their 2-person team to make it a 3, I just gave it a try lar!
*******
I am never a sports person, don't really like watching any sports programme, unless for specialy event like Worldcup Final, that is if I have no other programme to watch.
So you can imagine a 文弱书生's survivor struggle in the games against many taller and well-built opponents!
*******
Yesterday was my one and only training before the competition. Few minutes into the court already sweat and pant like hell, but it was painfully (all my limbs and body) fun actually. Finally touching a basketball again after 3 year since my last game with my ex-colleagues.
Well, my other 2 partners are way better than me, so I am contented to play supportin role in the game. Haha
(One might ask: What has the title got to do with the content of the blog? Well, it is just my fantasy that I may someday become a 灌蓝高手, .... in my next life)
July 02 1st business tripTomorrow will be my 1st trip to Vietnam.
But will be a very rush one, tomorrow 7:50am's flight to HCM and will be back Friday 2:50pm. Super fast right?
Just hope that Thursday's meeting would be very long, so that I can have time to walk around the city after work. cos Friday morning meeting will start at 9am...till 12noon before we need to rush to airport...
Basically it is work & work.
You could say I am pessimistic, but I specially treasure today, eat lunch with my wife etc cos who knows what might happen tomorrow?
I dont like to take plane, feel unsafe, cos I can't fly, haha. April 26 Changing CourseFinally, I have submitted my resignation letter.
Not that I don't like my current work scope or company (other than the pay), I felt that I should try something new while I am still young. Moreover, the job was: introduced by my ex-CM, my mentor; was with a more reputable and established company; a more challenging and interesting one and need to travel; etc
So looking forward to change and new experience that I even turned down my Director's tempting offer to sponsor me for a Law degree course.
Cos opportunity to work there was not always there, but I can study anytime (provided that I have the time and willing to fork out $25k)
No matter what, I just believe that my choice was the best that I could choose now (after I have turned down another interesting offer to work in the UK).
So, my new job will start 15th May 2008. March 09
1)一个男同学A在KL应征的时候,发现interviewer(该公司的Contracts Manager)竟是当年Certificate 毕业后到英国留学的旧同学B。
C'est La Vie
2)Wee Keok
Ha ha
“你等一下" 就put me on hold. 在我还摸不着头脑,电话铃一段便传来歌声“Happy birthday to you...Happy birthday to you..."
My farewell photo - Sysma Tender Department (clockwise: Me, Kelly (left already), Lai Ping, Chin Chin, Alan & Chris) :) August 27 Chinese Painting ExhibitionAttended a Chinese Painting Exhibition opening ceremony held at the Singapore Chinese Chamber of Commerce last Saturday afternoon. The artist was Mr Hou (候镇华),a student of a famous Mr Huang 黄稷堂 in China.
Beside the showing of all this wonderful painting, there was also a unique on-the-spot painting session, whereby a painting was the works of Mr Huang and several local artists, a real My wife & I were really amazed and mesmerised by the wonderful and lively painting. By just a few brushes, a flower blossomed, a few brushes more, a chirping bird appeared...
The most memorable person I remembered would be this 陶祚增老先生。In the beginning, he was reluctant to draw, but after watching a few of the other artists painted, he was finally "aroused" to show his skill. According to my calligraphy teacher, he was a famous artist whose works were much sought after and treasured by the angmohs very much, although not many people knew him locally. He was really a, what should I said, an man full of weird character of an artist But really, his painting was good!
(my calligraphy teacher on the left)
The "drawing" showing here was the essence 精髓 of all the previous 6 paintings drawn - it was actually colour marks/stains left by the 6 paintings (works by around 8 artist) earlier, drawing on top of this paper! In fact I like this painting more! ha ha
Glad that I attended this event which open my eyes and got me closer to my culture.
August 10 Singapore National Day Parade @ Marina Bay (9th Aug 2007)What can I say? Still excited (情绪高亢) after attending Singapore NDP in Marina Bay. Beside the crowd, the songs, the performance, the fireworks, and the strong emotion of patrioitism... What a wonderful evening, proud to be part of the crowd, surrounded by fellow Singaporean...
[wonder why no fireworks photo? cos my Panasonics camera no good, cant take night photo, so never shoot any. Remember, only buy Canon or Nikon camera, no matter what the salesperson told you] ************************** NDP 2007 @ Marina Bay ************************* I must thank my wife, her colleague, her boss who gave us the precious tickets to Singapore NDP at Marina Bay, so that my wish to be present at Singapore 42nd birthday party was fulfilled! I have tried for many years (E-balloting) to get NDP ticket but failed. Eventually it is who you know that will get you what you want. This is Life. But since I got the ticket already, so no complaint lar, haha. Purposely go to buy a red coloured shirt to attend this meaningful celebration. I once joked to my wife that I would consider convert to Singaporean if I could get my NDP ticket some day (via E-balloting). But since this time I got the ticket not through balloting, so no need to convert lar, ha ha (if not my friend Siaw Hui will said to me "我鄙视你(in 广东华)") Arrived at the venue around 5pm. Already full of people. The security was really tight - scan bag, body, no liquid etc, just like before boarding an airplane. But got a really wonderful gift bag with lots of freebies inside (Note: some I already ate/drank on the spot, actual things is more but not captured on photo) like handheld fan, vouchers, etc. The special thing about the bag is that it comprises of interchangable strips that allows you to change colour (by exhanging one of your strip with others of different colour eg green, red, purple, etc), interesting!
The programmes of the night were terrific and enjoyable. I have shoot them in my videocam, will upload to Youtube to share (or show-off?). [Note: Will edit this paragraph by putting the link here when I uploaded to You tube, Stay tune]. The wonderful evening ended with singing the National song "Majulah Singapura" and then a more that 6 minutes of fireworks. Although still not 感动 until want to convert to Singaporean, I am proud to be part of Singapore (as PR) and would wish Singapore a brighter and prosperous future! Happy 42nd National Day! Just yesterday, one song kept singing in my mind, have not drive me crazy yet. Instead I am still trying to memorise the lyrics and how to sing, especially the 台语 part "你是我心内的一首歌".
Go watch the cute and wonderful MV. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g9zzxqyqbsg Almost forgot, it is a duet by LiHom & Selina. Just don't blame me if the song keeps singing in your mind, like me... Ha ha ***************** Tomorrow will be my graduation ceremony. A 6 months' hardwork & $5,000, luckily, did not go to waste. Well, can start playing computer games now. You know what, just bought 11, e-l-e-v-e-n games (Walau!!) (all original) from Popular. Very cheap, only S$5 each, really BIG BIG sales. Only have to wait till my wife not at home then I can play, if not sure kena scold for ignoring her. Maybe let her give birth. With baby, she will be too busy to disturb me already, hee hee. (See, the song starts playing in my mind again...) July 31 夏日炎炎台湾之旅 (一)Having downloaded all photos and rested enough (but not 100% unpacked all luggage (!)), it's time to write how I spent my 9 days in Taiwan, under the toaster-like temperature and scorching sun... surrounded by 可爱的台湾妹妹
(Spend a long of time writing in Chinese, but I think the experience in Taiwan should be in Chinese :) )
(This is only the part one, more to come...) July 08 An eventful 7th Jul 20077th July 2007 was a very special day. It was the day I finally became a "freeman"! Finally completed my course and taken the final exam. Now, I can do other things like playing computer games without guilt. Haha. Can pass? Hope so. The result will come out around 20th Jul. So my plan now is to buy a new computer games (original one lar) and play all night long, ha ha. It was also the day I became older by (I think) at least 5 years old. cos it is the day I returned the "Student Card" and not longer a "Student" T_T ... Suddenly I am back to 31 years-old. Sigh... It was the day my friend Wee Keong's wedding in Melaka which I was unable to attend with regret. But my sister attended his church ceremony and sent me the photo.
(The other handsome guy is my sister's bf) It was an important day cos it was my most beautiful wife's birthday!!! We bought a nice lychee cake from Breadtalk. As she did not want to expose her age, I only get the permission to update the photo of the cake itself. Ha ha. The cake was just nice, not too sweet not to big either for 2 of us.
It was indeed an evenful day for me. How about you? July 06
I bought this Japanese movie for about 1 year plus, but still have not watch it. Instead I have read the novel. It is a sad movie, i suppose, but I like the statement above. 多愁善感,is one of the character of virgo, isn't it. :) To me, a sad story ending with regret (遗憾) will makes me remember the movie better. For that, I think Japanese movie/series have done a great job. (but denitely not sad movie like cheap-skate homogenous Korean series style where the main characters are either orphan/cancer/blind/die/related/etc) I think I have more things to say about Japanese series, but that shall keep that for another days. June 24 Relatives' weddingWoke up very early this morning at 6am!!! cos need to go to my wife's cousin's wedding.
Ah, a woman's most beautiful moment would be on her wedding day.
Then, as usual, the handsome bridegroom and his "brothers" were stopped / "harass" / extorted at the door. (I enjoy being a bystander who can take photo, laugh at the poor men, Ha ha
One of the task for the groom is to pick 5 diff spot of his body hair i.e. chest, eyebrow, nose, armpit and ... (Youngster these days are really daring)
Then, in Hokkien custom, a roast pig is a must.
After the photo session, tea ceremony, big feast (including the roast pig), the morning event ended in happy laughters and filling stomach. Then of course, as a custom, we all rush to buy 4D on the wedding car plate number (hope to strike a small fortune, Ha ha).
So, let's hope this evening I will be $2000 richer (I only buy $1 big lar).
And not forgetting to wish the newly wed a happy and "productive" life!!
June 23 Art @ Kreta AyerWho says Singapore is homogeneous & boring place. Not when some wall art (some call is grafitti) brightens up the pale wall at some back lane at Kreta Ayer (Chinatown)
I discovered the nicely done robot one day I was travelling back to office after collecting some document from URA. It's was 惊鸿一瞥, that I promised myself that I should explore this area some day.
So at a Saturday afternoon, I decided to go roaming and wondered around the area. And to my surprise, other than the Robot, I also found the following:
It has been some 6 months since I tool all these photo. So I have no idea if all these nicely done "mural" are still there. Or maybe, now there are more now!
To me, so long as it was nicely done, without any provocative /derogatory item, it really brightens up the city. Don't you think so?
After my exam in July, I will be on the scout again to catch more photos around the area.
June 16 Kiss the rainLove this song by Billie Myers. This song talks about a girl in a long distance relationship, talking to her boyfriend, who she fear he might flirt around due to loneliness. So instead of kissing other girl, she ask him to "kiss the rain". A passionate yet sad song. Like the ending of the MTV, where the phone just hanging in the air, "can you hear me...", raining like never ending tears and helplessness...
Hello
Can you hear me? Am I gettin' through to you? Hello Is it late there? There's a laughter on the line Are you sure you're there alone? Cause I'm Tryin' to explain Somethin's wrong Ya just don't sound the same Why don't you Why don't you Go outside Go outside Kiss the rain Whenever you need me Kiss the rain Whenever I'm gone, too long. If your lips Feel lonely and thirsty Kiss the rain And wait for the dawn. Keep in mind We're under the same sky And the nights As empty for me, as for you If ya feel You can't wait till morinin' Kiss the rain Kiss the rain Kiss the rain Hello Do you miss me? I hear you say you do But not the way I'm missin' you What's new? How's the weather? Is it stormy where you are? Cause you sound so close but it feels like you're so far Oh would it mean anything If you knew What I'm left imagining In my mind In my mind Would you go Would you go Kiss the rain And you'd fall over me Think of me Think of me Think of me Only me Kiss the rain Whenever you need me Kiss the rain Whenever I'm gone too long If your lips Feel hungry and tempted Kiss the rain and wait for the dawn Keep in mind We're under the same skies And the nights As empty for me, as for you If you feel You can't wait till morning Kiss the rain Kiss the rain Kiss the rain Kiss the rain Kiss the rain Oooooohhhhh Kiss the rain Oooooohhhhh Kiss the rain Hello Can ya hear me? Can ya hear me? Can ya hear me? It was never easy to maintain a long distance relationship. Too many unsuspected unknown would crop up and sway even the most sincere and loyal heart. June 14 My best friend's weddingMy best friend's wedding
My best friend Wee Keong is going to tie his knot this 7th July but I am unable to attend his wedding because of exam falling on the same day from 9am to 5pm (!) Felt so sorry because I have promised to myself that I will attend no matter what. So grateful that he has been my friend since Secondary school, helped me alot especially for my wedding, from accompanied me to Triang from Melaka in 6am; help me to handle the "ladies troop" at the door; decor my wedding "辛福门fortune door"; etc.
(Nice decor right? Done by both WK and I. The lady in the photo is his wife-so-to-be)
************************* Recently I like Eason Chan's song very much especially the "Under Mt Fuji". Then I come across his song called "Last night". Funny yet moving. The lyrics catched the very feeling of a guy scared of "losing" his friend after the wedding... so during the bachelor night, he sang this song to him, feeling and fearing lonely. So I decided to dedicate this song to Wee Keong, warning him not to forget his friend! Ha ha
